Good Morning:

The Benton-Franklin Humane Society has taken in a total of seven (three female and four male) adult American Eskimo dogs rescued last week by the Humane Society of the United States. One of the females may be pregnant and another female has a tumor, which will be removed by Dr. Coleman at the same time she is spayed. Two of the males are aggressive and will need a lot of socialization work.

At some point Monday, the HSUS will be releasing an additional three adults and ten puppies to the BFHS.

ALL of the adult dogs will be either spayed or neutered before being adopted out. Dr. Coleman will be working with us to get that done as soon as possible. The puppies will also need to be extensively checked out before being adopted because of the possibility they contracted the Parvo-virus at the kennel.

The BFHS has received hundreds of phone calls and emails since this story first came to light, many from people wanting to adopt these dogs. At the present time, none of them will be put up for adoption until the BFHS deems them suitable to be released into loving homes. We ask that interested people check our website (
www.bfhs.com) for updates on their availability. If anyone is interested in becoming a foster/temporary home, or would like to volunteer to help socialize these dogs, please contact our Adoption Manager Kelly Walker at 374-4235 or via email at shelter@bfhs.com.

The BFHS is the area's only "no-kill" animal shelter and has been a member of the Mid-Columbia's community for over 40 years. The shelter is located at 8620 W. Gage Blvd. in Kennewick and operates Monday-Friday 12pm-5pm and Saturday 10am-6pm. Information on the BFHS can also be found at our website www.bfhs.com.
