Our Mission

The Secret of Success

Benton-Franklin Humane Society, established in 1966, is a private, non-profit adoption center located in Kennewick, WA. We are a no-kill shelter that receives no government funding. BFHS advocates for the humane treatment of animals through adoption counseling, educational outreach and community services. We promote exceptional pet ownership and work tirelessly to place our animals into loving, forever homes. Compassion and respect guide our actions as we strive to create a model humane community.

Our Commitment to service

Founded in 1966, converted to No-Kill philosophy in 1994. Strategically developed and build the Roger James Animal Adoption Center with zero debt load, tripling capacity to house animals.

Serving our community

Built a surgical suite and added part-time veterinary staff to better serve animals in our care. Created a community food bank that helps hundreds of needy families keep their pets at home.

standard of excellence

Serve as an emergency receiving shelter for HSUS, ASPCA and Best Friends Animal Society’s national rescue efforts. Five time recipient of the prestigious American Human Association’s “Standard of Excellence” award

The Benton Franklin Humane Society is comprised of citizens from around the Tri-Cities just like you – people who care about animal welfare, are dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of the animals in the shelter’s care and beyond, and are accountable to the donors, supporters and volunteers who support our organization.
